About History Burgoo

 What is burgoo, anyway? While there seems to be flexibility in the recipes, in general burgoo is a thick, hearty stew with a combination of ingredients, including several different meats, some vegetables and a variety of spices.  Louisiana has gumbo. Kentucky has burgoo—and we take pride in the tradition and heritage it represents.

At KHS, we serve our history like we like our burgoo. Elements of Kentucky history, culture, oral history, social events and programming and scholarly research all combine to help Kentuckians connect to their shared pasts, to offer some perspective on the present and to inspire us for the future.
